FrigoService is a Panamanian cold-storage and Food & Service company serving all of Panama. Its vision is to be a leader in the Central American and Caribbean market in logistics and commercialization services for products that primarily require the cold chain.
FrigoService has more than 10 years in the national and international market, with 40,600 cubic meters and a capacity of more than 4,000 combined pallet positions across its temperature-controlled environments.
FrigoService's short- and medium-term plan is to keep adding more server workloads and applications to AWS, decouple components using serverless technologies, and migrate SAP Business One as its core ERP. As an AWS partner, IVCISA will continue to generate value and innovation for FrigoService, always applying best practices in migration, security, and data protection.
Cost savings were a fundamental factor in being able to keep innovating, since they allowed FrigoService to use those savings to bring more technology to its business.
After completing the plan to move its applications and workloads to the AWS cloud, FrigoService relied on IVCISA for the deployment, preserving the security and integrity of its data and the productive operation of its platform, and achieved the goal of incorporating a new route-management application for FrigoService's fleet of vehicles and trucks, as well as the successful migration of its corporate email, which is part of the company's productive core. Route management was achieved through integrations with SAP Business One, which is on-premises. As added value for the organization, the ERP's Disaster Recovery now resides in AWS.
Following an activity plan, AWS services were deployed such as Amazon RDS and EC2, backup storage using Amazon S3, and secure connectivity via VPN and private networks with no internet access within FrigoService's VPC on AWS. To deploy the infrastructure successfully, IVCISA leveraged AWS best practices, such as CloudFormation, and for security and data-protection compliance, AWS Security Hub was incorporated through AWS Config and AWS CloudTrail.
FrigoService achieved savings of more than 54% in just the first year of incorporating its applications into AWS, enabling savings in infrastructure costs and in deployment and configuration times.
The current setup allows comprehensive testing in development environments for SAP Business One and the route-systems application, paying only for what is in use during defined periods.
Incorporating and migrating the corporate email system using Zimbra Mail Server has improved capabilities the company did not have before, providing secure, fast email for sending and receiving messages—an important factor in managing notifications for FrigoService's clients.
